10-year-old Fargo boy treated for head wound after being hit with belt

Police say a 10-year-old Fargo boy who refused to give his basketball to another boy was struck in the head with the metal end of a belt and had to be treated at a local hospital.

Police say a 10-year-old Fargo boy who refused to give his basketball to another boy was struck in the head with the metal end of a belt and had to be treated at a local hospital.

Officers were called to the assault at 5:20 p.m. Tuesday in the 1000 block of 21st Street South.

The 10-year-old was playing basketball in Community Homes Park when the other boy tried to take his basketball, Sgt. Mark Lykken said.

When the victim said no, the suspect hit him in the head with the metal end of a belt, he said. The victim suffered a long cut to his head and was treated and released at a local hospital.

Police have a suspect in the case and will be following up on it, Lykken said.

On Sunday, Fargo police arrested two juveniles after a fight in which a 9-year-old boy allegedly hit an 11-year-old boy with a pipe.
