There is a spiritual battle in this world that affects every sphere of our lives.
God has an agenda and Satan has an agenda. God and Satan will use people who will cooperate with them to get their agendas accomplished.
God created the world and everything that exists, even Satan. God wanted good for those He created. Satan has been fighting God’s plans ever since he rebelled against God and was thrown out of heaven.
Every human being makes a choice which side he will take. Satan has a head start, because we are born with a bent to serve him.
Jesus, however, is the one who left heaven to rescue us from the traps and devices of the devil. Jesus has also defeated the devil in this world. Jesus lived a sinless life as a human being, died as a sacrifice for our sins, and rose from the dead to prove His victory.
Every person who wants to choose Jesus must believe that He is God and that He will reward those who trust Him (Hebrews 11:6).
The devil is a liar and he will say and do anything that will deceive you or mislead you. God is a God of truth. Jesus said, “I am the way and the truth and the life; no one comes to the Father but through Me” (John 14:6).
Last week, I wrote that God wants all His followers to be of one mind and heart and to glorify God. The reason we have such a hard time coming together is that many Christians don’t know what side they are on.
Jesus said it this way: “These people honor me with their lips, but their hearts are far from me” (Matthew 15:8).
The battle is spiritual. God wants one thing and the devil wants something else. The sad reality is, not many Christians discern clearly what is from God and what is of the devil.
What God wants is our total surrender to Him. Satan will do anything that takes our eyes away from Jesus. “The thief comes only to steal and kill and destroy; I came so that they would have life, and have it abundantly” (John 10:10).
The devil, the liar, thief and murderer wants you to believe that he has your best interest at heart, but he is the one destroying your life. Satan will give you just enough pleasure to hook you and then use it to control you.
Jesus asks for surrender then gives you real freedom: freedom from guilt, shame, and condemnation. Jesus wants to add to your life, to bless what you give Him, to give you eternal life, a hope and a future.
The choice is yours: follow a liar who destroys what you give him, or completely surrender to Christ, who came to bring life and blessing.
Jesus said “No man can serve two masters” (Matthew 6:24). But many are trying, are you?
