You may now call him “Doc,” if you like.

Rev. Chris Davis received his Doctor of Ministry degree Friday, May 21 at Concordia Theological Seminary in Fort Wayne, Ind.

Davis is the pastor at First English Lutheran Church of Dorset.

The focus of Davis’ studies was preaching and teaching. The degree is a 36-credit hour program that includes a six-credit dissertation. Other potential areas of focus include pastoral care and leadership and mission and culture.

Davis’ dissertation was titled “Lutheran Hymnody as a Resource for Oratio, Meditatio, and Tentatio.” These three Latin words are a reference to reformer Martin Luther, who wrote that the three rules for studying theology are prayer, meditating on Scripture and undergoing trials or testing.
