The Nemeth Art Center will celebrate an exhibit in its community gallery by Minnesota sculptor Gail Katz-James this Saturday, Sept. 2.
Katz-James is an artist based out of Minneapolis. Her sculptures - made of steel, wire, hardware and found objects - are rooted in the textile traditions like quilting, weaving, lacemaking and knotless netting.
Katz-James focuses on the transformation of materials from their familiar context into surfaces and structures. She combines welding with hand-manipulated textile processes, such as wire work and beading.
Her opening reception starts at 4:30 p.m. Sept. 2 for NAC members and will run from 5:30 to 7 p.m. for the general public. This is the final opening reception at the NAC this season.
The Nemeth Art Center is open 10:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursdays through Saturdays in the upstairs of the historic courthouse at 301 Court Ave., Park Rapids.
