PR community band presents ‘American Sketches’ Nov. 17

The Park Rapids Area Community Band performs fall and spring concerts as well as a popular show on the Fourth of July.

The 50-member Park Rapids Area Community Band (PRACB) will present “American Sketches” for its fall concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, Nov. 17 at the Park Rapids Area High School auditorium.

Under the baton of Adam Tervola Hultberg, the band will play selections by Edwin Bagley, Carolyn Bremer, John Williams, Irving Berlin and Charles Ives.

A special highlight will be clarinet soloist Dr. Leigh Wakefield, professor of music at Concordia College in Moorhead. Together, the PRACB and Wakefield will present “Concertino for Clarinet and Band” by Dr. Frank Bencriscutto.

For an added nugget of fun, Wakefield will collaborate with the clarinet section on "The Clarinet Polka.” Each selection on this program is intended to evoke a variety of American images: The American flag, Appalachia, Cajun culture, cowboys and more.
