"Treasured Memories" is the title of this year's midsummer tea hosted by Chapter FJ, a PEO chapter with members from Park Rapids, Nevis and Menahga.

Ladies of all ages - 'tweens to centenarians - are welcome to attend the Thursday, July 19 event; gentlemen are also welcome.

Guests are invited to wear gloves, hats, pearls or any of the other ornaments that gentlepeople wore in the 1950s, and will be entertained by the decorations, the music and the food.

The event will be from 1 to 3 p.m. at Riverside United Methodist Church on Highway 71 North in Park Rapids.

Typical "high tea" fare will be the order of the day, with guests served stacked trays of tiny sandwiches, sweets, savories and tea and coffee and chilled beverages.

The Eric Bervig children will provide music, with their father's assistance. The program will take guests back to days when no one carried a cell

phone, and the entire family sat down at the dinner table together - perhaps not better times than today, but certainly different ones.

Tickets are available at Beagle Books, from any chapter member or by calling 732-6531. The monies raised by this annual

event are used to provide scholarships for young women graduating from

area high schools, as well as women of any age nearing college graduation or returning to college.

Chapter FJ has been involved in successful applications for a number of PEO grants and loans to

local women.

Tickets will also be available for a drawing on a quilt made by Chapter FJ member Betty Thomsen. They can be purchased at the tea or ahead of time from chapter members or at Beagle Books on Third Street in Park Rapids.
