Park Rapids musicians excel at ensemble contest

Five students each earned "excellent" and "superior" ratings in the subsection contest on Feb. 23.

Park Rapids Area High School hosted a Minnesota State High School League subsection ensemble music contest Wednesday, Feb. 23.

According to band teacher John Cook, nine schools brought ensembles to perform, and Park Rapids band members performed in six events.

“It was a strong day of music making,” he said. “All groups represented themselves well.”

Receiving “excellent” ratings were the trombone duet of Levi Trygstad and Isaac Hartig, the flute duet of Jillian Neubauer and Kyla Mercil, and Kiergon Wilkins on drums.

Receiving “superior” ratings for their performances were the trumpet duet of Anna Eckman and Mackenzie LaFerriere and the clarinet ensemble of Jack Worner, Harmony Trygstad and Cate Worner.
