The cast and crew of Northern Light Opera Company’s production of “You’re a Good Man, Charlie Brown,” is having a blast.
The cast already has one performance under its belt. The play is being performed in Armory Square in downtown Park Rapids with Greg Paul directing and Jason Wright as music director.
The cast includes Libby Sorenson as Lucy, Faith Kern as Sally, Hawken Paul as Charlie, Brandon Haller as Snoopy, Lewis Johnson as Linus, Joe Bolling as Schroeder, Jimmy Farmer as Pigpen, Coral Johnson as Frieda and Finn Paul as Rerun.
Hawkin, 14, said he’s done a considerable amount of acting in smaller roles.
“It’s definitely been a big step up playing the lead,” he said.
Charlie Brown is an interesting character and is very relatable, he said.
“He’s a very, very likable character and never stops trying to overcome his depression,” Hawkin added.
His younger brother Finn, 10, plays Rerun, which is a character that appeared later in the comic strip.
He said it’s been interesting to be in a show that features such a famous comic strip.
Faith Kern is playing Sally, who she describes as being kind of crazy.
“It’s been really fun to act like a little kid again,” she said. “She has these major mood swings.”
Libby Sorenson is playing Lucy, a very confident and self-assured character.
“The play features a lot of childish antics and shenanigans and should be fun for everyone,” Sorenson added.
Show times are 7:30 p.m. for the July 13, 18 and 19 performances and 3 p.m. July 14 and 20 at Park Rapids Armory Square.
The book, music and lyrics by Clark Gesner, based on the beloved comic strip Peanuts by Charles Schulz, is a fun musical comedy that will have audiences laughing out loud.  Though considered a “good man” by his friends, Charlie Brown can’t seem to win the heart of the Little Red-Haired Girl, nor his friend Lucy, her crush, the piano-playing Schroeder.
Meanwhile Snoopy and Linus daydream and the rest of the friends battle with kites, school, baseball and misunderstandings before finally coming to realize what makes them truly happy.
