Singer Evan Byler will perform from 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. Thursday, Aug. 12 at St. Johns Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Organist Sarah Carlson will provide accompaniment.
Byler graduated from Bemidji State University this spring with a degree in vocal music education. This fall, he will complete the student teaching part of his degree in Brainerd. He enjoys singing at home, in church and at school, as well as composing and playing fingerstyle guitar.
Carlson received her Master of Music in organ performance from the University of Iowa and her Bachelor of Music from St. Olaf College. During the fall of 2009, she performed harpsichord concertos by J.S. Bach at Bemidji State University. Prior to coming to Bemidji, she was director of music at St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Darlington, S.C., an adjunct professor of music at Coker College in Hartsville, S.C., accompanist for the Coker Singers and head of the piano division’s Preparatory School of Music. She is currently director of music ministry at First Lutheran Church in Bemidji.
The recital is part of the Noon Hour Concerts series sponsored by Heartland Arts. COVID-19 guidelines will be followed, and there will be no social hour.
