Alpha Delta Kappa (ADK) is an international honorary organization of women educators dedicated to educational excellence, altruism and world understanding. The local chapter of ADK, Alpha Phi, includes the school districts of Park Rapids, Nevis, Menahga, and Sebeka. This organization exists to support local communities in areas such as public and school libraries, food shelf, HIC, Kinship and Food Angel as well as the mission of the international organizations through St. Jude’s, the Alzheimer’s Association and others.
The sisters of Alpha Phi promote professional growth and educational enrichment with diverse monthly programs and social experiences. Membership is open to all women educators.
At the state and national levels, Alpha Phi participates in conferences and conventions with other women in education. Two members recently received the Minnesota Excellence in Education Award, Laurie Conzemius in 2018 and Stephanie Mercil in 2020.
At the local level, the group awards one or two annual $500 scholarships to area college students who plan to enter the professional field of teaching and have been accepted into the preparation program in their chosen education field. To date, Alpha Phi has awarded over $20,000 in scholarships to local high school graduates that have chosen education as their career. There are also opportunities for teachers in local districts to apply for grants and scholarships for use in their classrooms. Teachers do not need to be ADK members to apply.
