Park Rapids' Vern Weekley Field will host the state Class A boys and girls True Team track and field meet on Friday, May 28.

A total of 12 boys teams and 12 girls teams have been invited to compete, including both Park Rapids teams. The Panthers won the Section 8A titles to qualify.

Also winning section titles were Pine Island (boys) and GMLOK (girls) in Section 1A, Sibley East (boys) and JWP (girls) in Section 2A, Redwood Valley (boys) and SWMCH-EHS (girls) in Section 3A, Howard Lake-Waverly (boys) and Maple Lake (girls) in Section 4A, Morris Area (boys) and Minnewaska Area (girls) in Section 5A, Frazee (boys) and Barnesville (girls) in Section 6A, and Greenway/Nashwauk-Keewatin (boys and girls) in Section 7A. Four wild card teams for both boys and girls yet to be determined also qualified.

The meet is scheduled to begin at 10 a.m.

"This is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity to host a state meet in Park Rapids," said Corey Hill, the head coach of the Park Rapids girls track and field team who put together this meet. "Twenty four of the best boys and girls teams will go to battle here for a state title."
