Girls Basketball: West Central Area tops Menahga girls
Janie Tormanen scored 20 points to lead the Braves in a 54-50 loss.
West Central Area used a 14-4 run down the stretch to spark a 54-50 win over the Menahga girls basketball team at Barrett on Saturday, Dec. 4.
A 3-pointer by Amanda Lake and two layups by Janie Tormanen gave Menahga a 13-9 lead before a layup and a 3-pointer by Lela Peterson helped the Braves to a 25-25 tie at the half.
Four layups by Tormanen and two jumpers by Maryn Pinoniemi gave Menahga a 41-40 edge before WCA went on a 14-4 run to take a 54-45 lead. A 3-pointer by Pinoniemi and a layup by Tormanen concluded the scoring.
Tormanen finished with 20 points, Pinoniemi scored 11 points, Lake grabbed 10 rebounds and Peterson dished out four assists for the Braves, who fell to 1-1 on the season.
Lexi Bright (14), Claire Stark (13) and Mya Foslien (10) scored in double figures as the Knights improved to 1-1.
