Girls Basketball: Menahga defeats New York Mills
The Braves remained undefeated in Park Region Conference play with a 49-35 victory.
A 22-7 run in the first half gave the Menahga girls basketball team the lead for good in a 49-35 Park Region Conference win over New York Mills at Menahga on Thursday, Dec. 16.
New York Mills held a 12-6 lead before Mackenzie Anderson scored off a rebound and hit a jumper, Janie Tormanen had a pair of layups, Maryn Pinoniemi and Janelle Hendrickson scored on layups, Allie Pfeifer turned a steal into a layup, and Erica Tormanen and Joie Koll hit 3-pointers to give the Braves a 28-19 lead. Menahga led 28-21 at the half.
A pair of layups by Hendrickson and a three-point play by Erica Tormanen kept Menahga in front 35-27 before the Eagles cut the gap to 35-30. The Braves regained control behind three inside baskets by Janie Tormanen, two layups by Anderson and a layup by Pinoniemi.
Janie Tormanen’s 13 points, nine rebounds and four steals led the Braves. Anderson added 11 points and Pinoniemi dished out three assists as Menahga improved to 3-0 in the conference and 4-1 overall.
Isabelle Bauck scored 18 points as NYM fell to 1-2 in conference games and 4-2 overall.
