Cass Lake-Bena took advantage of a cold shooting night by the Nevis girls basketball team for an 80-57 Northwoods Conference win at the Tiger Arena on Thursday, Dec. 16.
Nevis made only 2 of 25 3-point attempts and missed 16 of 25 free throws in the loss.
Two inside baskets by Ava Isaacson along with a basket off a rebound and a 3-pointer by Kayli Besser kept the Tigers within 15-9 before CL-B responded with a 25-9 run to claim a 40-18 advantage. Jumpers by Maggie Carrier and Bessler and layups by Isaacson and Addison Lindow made it 46-27 at the half.
A 3-pointer and a pair of jumpers by Lindow, two inside baskets by Bessler, a layup by Isaacson and a three-point play by Mya Stacey cut the deficit to 59-45. The Panthers regained control by going on a 19-5 run to seal the win.
Isaacson’s 22 points and 13 rebounds along with Bessler’s 15 points and 14 rebounds led the Tigers. Marley Mitchell grabbed 12 rebounds and had three steals as Nevis fell to 1-2 in conference play and 2-3 overall.

Gabby Fineday (28), Krisalyn Seelye (20) and Taryn Frazer (15) scored in double figures for CL-B, which made 10 of 26 3-pointers to improve to 5-0 in Northwoods Conference games and 6-0 overall.
