The Joyann Parker Band will conclude this summer’s 2nd Street Stage concert series with rhythm and blues Thursday, Aug. 19.

The free, public concert runs from 6 to 8 p.m. on the second block of Main Avenue South in downtown Park Rapids. A social hour will start at 5 p.m. and attendees are encouraged to bring their own chair.

Classically trained pianist Joyann Parker has a degree in music from the University of Wisconsin-La Crosse. She was singing in church and with a wedding band when the blues and soul music “discovered” her.

After singing Aretha Franklin’s classic, “Chain of Fools,” at a contest, Parker was invited to join a blues band. The following year, Joyann Parker & Sweet Tea won the Minnesota Blues Society’s band competition, and in 2015 competed in the International Blues Challenge in Memphis, Tenn. That experience inspired Parker’s album, “Hard to Love.”

Joining Parker onstage are guitarist and songwriter Mark Lemoine, Brad Schaefer on bass, Bill Golden on drums and vocals and Tim Wick on keyboards.
