Alt rock band next up at 2nd Street Stage
"Collapsing Stars," a Twin Cities-based band, headlines 2nd Street Stage on Thursday, June 20.
Sponsored by the Park Rapids Downtown Business Association, 2nd Street Stage celebrates summer and live music Thursday evenings through Aug. 15.
"Collapsing Stars" bring a blend of blues, roots, folk and Americana sounds "with a hint of modernity." In the last few years, they've earned producer credits on a record for Rhymesayers Entertainment, played a showcase at the renowned Hotel Cafe in Los Angeles and in 2016 performed for over 120,000 people at Red Bull Crashed Ice.
Their debut record, titled "2012," has received some noteworthy accolades, including praise from Dan Wilson, the "Semisonic" frontman who has co-written songs for the "Dixie Chicks," John Legend, Weezer and Adele's 2011 hit "Someone Like You."
In 2018, "Collapsing Stars" were selected as an official SXSW artist out of a pool of over 8,000 applicants. NPR Music named them a top 100 SX artist out of 2,000 showcasing acts.
The free concert runs from 6 to 8 p.m.with bands, a beer garden, cornhole tournaments and family activities on the second block of South Main. Bring your own lawn chair.
The beer garden will open at 5 p.m. for a social hour. Support the event by buying an official 2019 button and receive $2 off all beverages at the beer garden.
