Armchair Boogie will the featured band on Aug. 1 at 2nd Street Stage.

The Park Rapids Downtown Business Association invites all to celebrate summer at 2nd Street Stage, Thursday evenings through Aug. 15.

The free concerts run from 6 to 8 p.m. – 7 to 9 p.m. on Aug. 8 – with bands, a beer garden and family activities on the second block of South Main. Bring your own lawn chair.

The beer garden will open at 5 p.m. for a social hour while you find your spot, listen to the sound check and greet neighbors and friends. Support this great event by buying an official 2019 button and receive $2 off all beverages at the beer garden.

The Park Rapids Lakes Area Chamber of Commerce and Convention and Visitors Bureau is the band sponsor for Armchair Boogie from Madison, Wis. Armchair Boogie's high-energy take on the Jamgrass genre fuses intricate arrangements of acoustic guitar and banjo with the funky back beats of electric bass and drums.

Augie Dougherty (banjo, vocals) and Ben Majeska (guitar, vocals) started playing together in the fall of 2014 while attending the University of Wisconsin-Stevens Point. Within a year, their musical collaborations led to the formation of Armchair Boogie, expanding their sound with the addition of bassist Eli Frieders and a drummer. Armchair Boogie solidified their current line-up in the spring of 2017 when Denzel Connor took over on drums.

In conjunction with the release of their debut, self-titled album, the band moved to Madison, Wis. and has become a regular on the upper Midwest festival circuit.

Arrive at 5 p.m. for the social hour, sponsored by Timber Creek Dock & Lift Service.

Weekly stage sponsor is R.D. Offutt Farms. TruStar Federal Credit Union is weekly sound sponsor. This activity is also made possible, in part, by the voters of Minnesota through a grant from the Region 2 Arts Council, thanks to a legislative appropriation from the Arts and Cultural Heritage Fund.
