Northern Lights Dance Academy (NLDA) held a winter recital Sunday at Nevis School, showcasing the talents of its ballet, hip hop, jazz and tap dancers, from ages 3 on up.
"Elf" was the theme, based on the 2003 Christmas movie starring Will Ferrell and Zooey Deschanel. Sunday’s performance featured Monty Schott as “Buddy” the elf and Kylee Miller as Jovie.
Proceeds from the recital were given to Haley Crandall, a 9-year-old dancer from Osage.
Born with three heart defects, Haley underwent her first heart surgery at the age of 2.
Reading a message from the Crandalls, NLDA owner and dance instructor Kendal Ware told the audience that, in August 2019, Haley got a new pacemaker. She still has three heart valves that must be fully replaced and is being monitored until her next heart surgery. Due to some difficulty with medication, Haley is currently unable to dance.
Ware said approximately $2,000 was raised for the Crandalls.
The Crandalls could not attend the recital, but Haley’s mom, Tricia, later said, “We would like to thank everyone for all the support, donations, well wishes and prayers for Miss Haley and our family! What an amazing blessing and truly makes a difference. We are humbled by the amazing support she has received.”
