Youth invited to enter library's short story contest

Calling all young adult authors!

If you are between sixth and 12th grade, attend Park Rapids, Nevis, Menahga, Sebeka, Laporte schools or homeschool, you can enter the 13th annual Park Rapids Area Library's Young Adult Writing Contest.

Write whatever kind of story you wish, but you must begin your story with the sentence "I could only think of one reason why this wouldn't work."

All entries must be 500 words or less, double-spaced and typed with a cover sheet that includes your name, grade and phone number.

This year, the library will award one 7" Kindle Fire with Alexa as the Grand Prize. Second prize in each of the three grade categories (6-7, 8-9, 10-12) is a $20 Chamber Bucks certificate. Third place in each category will receive a $10 Chamber Bucks certificate. Chamber Bucks can be used just like cash with any Park Rapids Chamber member business. From greenhouses and clothing to food, jewelry and books, many of your favorite stores in the Park Rapids area are Chamber members.

Send your story before Feb. 28 to as a PDF attachment or drop it by the Park Rapids Area Library in person. Every entrant receives $2 in Friends of the Library Book Bucks, which you can use at their upcoming book sale or any future book sale.

We thank the Friends of the Park Rapids Library for generously sponsoring this annual contest.
