Derek Porozinski plays key role on MSUM football team

The 2015 Park Rapids grad had 35 tackles in 11 games this season as a defensive end.

Park Rapids’ Derek Porozinski capped off his collegiate career for the Minnesota State University Moorhead football team by playing in all 11 games.

Porozinski, a senior defensive end, compiled 35 tackles (12 solo and 23 assists) as the Dragons went 5-6 in Northern Sun Intercollegiate Conference play. Porozinski also had 3.5 tackles for loss, 2.5 quarterback sacks, two quarterback hits, one forced fumble and one blocked kick. Porozinski had eight tackles (three solo, five assists) in a 24-3 win over Concordia-St. Paul and seven tackles (two solo, five assists) in a 35-31 win over the University of Mary.

Bemidji State won the NSIC North Conference title with a 6-0 record with Duluth (5-1) following. Joining the Dragons at 3-3 were Northern State and Mary. Minot State (1-5) and Concordia-St. Paul (0-6) rounded out the North standings.

During his four-year career at MSUM, Porozinski played in 39 games and had 113 tackles (49 solo, 64 assists), 8.5 sacks and two fumble recoveries. Porozinski, who graduated from Park Rapids Area High School in 2015, began his collegiate football career at Northern State University.

The Dragons’ 2020 season was canceled due to COVID.
