Maurice "Mickey" R. Rugroden, 87, a longtime resident of Park Rapids, peacefully passed from this life to eternal life Monday morning, June 10, 2013 at the Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga.

Mickey was born Aug. 3, 1925 to Maurice and Dorothy (Buck) Rugroden in Northome. As a small boy he moved with his family to Nevis, where he graduated from high school.

As a young man, Mickey served his country in the Pacific Theater of World War II seeing much active combat as a gunner on a B-17 Bomber.

Following his honorable discharge, Mickey returned to Minnesota and attended Bemidji State University where he earned an English degree.

In the mid-1970s, Mickey started the M & E Real Estate Company which he operated in Park Rapids for many years. For many years, Mickey made his home on Lake Belle Taine near Nevis where he raised his family and spent some of the best times of his life.

He was a private pilot and owned his own airplane which he enjoyed flying and taking friends and family up with him. He was an avid fisherman who enjoyed the peace and serenity of spending time on his favorite waters angling for the wiley walleye and other species.

Mickey was a man of deep faith in the Lord and enjoyed investing his life in helping others. He will long be remembered for his quick and warm sense of humor and the depth of his relationships with family and friends whom he loved with all his heart.

Mickey also possessed a profound love for animals. He was dearly loved and will be deeply missed by all who knew him.

He was preceded in death by his parents, two brothers, Clyde and Russell; and sister, Arlis.
