LETTER: Thanks for supporting Kinship

This amazing community stepped up once again to support youth mentoring in a big way on Saturday, Aug. 16.

Ten teams of 4-6 people aged 12 to 62 faced unique and surprising challenges at Citizens Bank, Coborn’s, Delaney’s, Heartland Homes, Hubbard County Law Enforcement Center, Hugo’s, Lori Lea Lanes, NorthStar Orthodontics, Park Ace Hardware and Park Rapids Fire Department. They carried dollar bills with a straw, chased minnows, searched for “a missing child,” bowled over paint cans with a football and lots more, all with lightning speed.

The event was made possible by Keystone Sponsors Citizens National Bank, CHI St. Joseph’s Health, Wolff & Simon Real Estate and new car dealers Thielen Motors and Park Rapids Ford as well as Supporting Sponsors Arvig, Brookside Resort, Essentia Health, State Bank of Park Rapids and Trading Post. Keystone media sponsor Paul Bunyan Communications and supporting media DeLaHunt Broadcasting Family and Park Rapids Enterprise publicized the event. Local and regional businesses donated numerous prizes. Many thanks to these generous sponsors!

Thanks also to the team sponsors and participants. Some team members returned to Heartland Park still wet from the fire department’s challenge, others with perspiration from intense efforts to accomplish their challenge faster than any other team. After refreshing with snacks provided by Hugo’s, the teams charged into the final challenge designed by Kinship board members. Each team member was required to do at least one part of the challenge – guiding a blindfolded teammate through an obstacle course, wheelbarrow racing, sliding an Oreo cookie from their forehead into their mouth with no hands or other help.

Congratulations to winners Team Electra Woman, Dina Girl, Frank & the Outlaws! They are coming back next year to defend their title. The other teams are also hoping to be back – for more fun, another chance to win $500 and to support a great cause. As one participant describes the event, “It’s amazing!” Best of all, Kinship’s Amazing Chase raises funds to help Kinship connect adults with kids and put hope in their hearts. Thanks to all who contributed in any way!
