Wolf Lake to celebrate a 'howlin' harvest

The 28th annual Wolf Lake Harvest Festival - "a howlin' good time" - will be held Aug. 12-14.

The event kicks off with a coronation, the Miss Wolf Lake/Little Miss pageant at 7 p.m. Friday in the Community Hall.

A street dance begins at 8:30 p.m. in the Community Hall with Party Spark providing tunes.

Saturday's events include a 5K walk/run, leaving at 9 a.m. from Klondike Café.

A blood drive will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Spruce Grove Apostolic Lutheran Church. Call Amand Aho to register at 218-538-6690.

Face painting, a flea market and a scavenger hunt begin at 10 a.m. in the Rescue Squad building.

Collector cars and tractors will line up in front of Klondike Café at 10 a.m. Contact DuWayne at 218-538-6005 for info.

The Lions will be serving a ham dinner from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at the Wolf Lake Community Hall.

The deadline for the kids coloring contest is at noon; entries are available at Lakes Area Co-op.

Kids games - water balloon tossing, an egg passing relay, three-legged races and pillowcase races - begin at noon. Scavenger hunt awards will be presented at noon at Christ Lutheran Church.

The Harvest Festival parade begins at 2 p.m. Entries, including military- based participants such as Legions and Reserve units, are welcome. Contact Erin Jepson at 218-538-6005.

A dessert social follows the parade.

Then head to the mud pits, where a half-hour after the parade, a mud run begins. To enter, call Ken at 218-639-6354.

Or join in a bit of arm wrestling in front of the Community Hall.

A five-card tournament begins at the Community Hall after the mud run. Players are limited to 25 playing five rounds. Spectators are welcome to watch their favorite card shark.

A street dance with Rita by the Heart begins at 8:30 p.m. by the Community Hall.

Sunday, a horseshoe tourney begins with registration at 8:30 a.m. Doubles are at 9 a.m. and singles at 1 p.m. Contact Chuck at 218-849-4148 for info.

A co-ed softball tourney begins at 10:30 a.m. A two-person team lawn bowling tournament begins at 11 a.m. All ages are welcome. Contact Merle to register for the softball tourney at 218-839-9500; call Logan at 218-849-1904 to sign up for lawn bowling.

Prize drawings begin at 3 p.m. with a $1 donation casting a name in the hat for the $500 first prize, $400 for second, $300 third, $200 fourth and $100 fifth. (Need not be present to win.)

To reach Wolf Lake from Park Rapids, take Highway 34 west.  Just west of Osage, go south (left) on CSAH 47.  CSAH 47 ends in a T at CSAH 40.  Continue west (right) into Wolf Lake.
