Despite a slow first night Thursday due to rain, the Park Rapids PBR bull ride went extremely well, said producer Randy Jokela. “Saturday night, the last night, had an excellent crowd,” he said. The new dances with big name bands were very successful, Jokela said. “People really liked the new stage. They were really close to the musicians,” he added. The biggest bull ride winners at the PBR event over the weekend included: Budd Williamson, from Ayr OLD, Australia, $11,484. Zac Peterson, from Velva, N.D., $8,569. John Smith, from Malta, Mont., $3,040. Timmy Vaughan, Tonganoxie, Kan., $2,285. Stetson Laurence, Williston, N.D., $1,781. The top barrel race winners included: Jordan Moore, from Mauston, Wis., $798. Katie Bell, from Motley, $598. Lindsay Jensen, $399, from Detroit Lakes. The PBR was on a new weekend this year (July 10-12) instead of the 4th of July. Jokela said that while there was some confusion over the new dates, many people liked the change. “I think it was a wonderful addition to Park Rapids and brought people here a second weekend (after the 4th),” he said.
