The 2012 Lakes to Pines Triathlon is June 16 in Park Rapids.
The fifth-annual triathlon, sponsored by the Park Rapids Swim Boosters, includes a 500-yard swim in the Park Rapids Area High School pool, a 14.7-mile bicycle ride and 5K run.
Participants can compete as an individual or on a two or three person team.
The day of the race, registration opens at 7 a.m. with the race starting at 9 a.m.

A kids triathlon is also part of the event. Ages 9 and under swim 50 yards, bike .48 miles and run .3 miles. Ages 10-12 swim 100 yards, bike 1.1 miles and run .3 miles.
The kids races will start at about 11:30 a.m. after the adult triathlon is completed. Awards will be handed out at about noon.

The 12th annual Sebeka Red Eye River Run/Walk will be held at 9 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at Sebeka City Park.
A revised route makes it easier for those with strollers. Family rates are available and grandparents of youth may participate together.

Twisted Stitchers' own Linda Norwood will be demonstrating creating a headband on a simple loom at 9:30 a.m. Saturday, June 16 at 210 Main Street, Park Rapids (Monika's).
It's a grand introduction to weaving for children, and fun for adults too. She'll show how to make a beaded band - perfect for a headband - using the simplest of looms. It is quick to make, requiring only a dowel or old fishing pole, paper clips, tape, heavy thread, a beading needle and beads.

The Itasca Moraine Chapter has scheduled a 5.2-mile Father's Day hike Sunday, June 17.
Hikers are to meet at the North Country Trail kiosk/parking lot at the intersection of Highwat 64 and East Steamboat Forest Road, 4 miles north of Akeley.
The hike will commence at 1 p.m. and ends at Akeley Cutoff Forest Road, northwest of Akeley.

Bemidji Area Church Musicians will present Eve Sumsky and Bonnie Swanson, French horn, Lizette Grinden, violin, and Becky Haugen, piano, at noon Wednesday, June 20 at St. Bartholomew's Episcopal Church, 1800 Irvine
Ave., Bemidji.
The concert will feature music from the 18th Century to the present including works by composers Rohan Kriwaczec, C.W. Gluck, Edward S. Solomon, G. Faure, J.S. Bach, Gunther Schuller, and Lowell E. Shaw.
The pieces include music for solo French horn, solo violin, and French horn
duets.

An "all swings for Kinship" mini golf tournament will be held at 5 p.m. Wednesday, June 20 at Evergreen Gifts and Fun Park.
Golfers can sign up for fun play at 5, 6 or 7 p.m.
Cost is $60 per teams of up to four people. All ages are welcome.
The event features "wacky holes" with prizes and a traveling trophy. All proceeds benefit Kinship.

The new Park Rapids Area Energy Expansion (PRAEEx) group will meet at 7 p.m. Thursday, June 21 at the Northwoods Bank community room.
The meeting topic will be solar energy with guest speaker Roger Garton, technical director and mechanical engineer with Rural Renewable Energy Alliance, Pine River.
This presentation will be covering basics of solar electric, solar water heat and solar air heat systems. Hands-on demonstration models for each of these technologies will be on display. Attendees will be able to see and ask specific questions.

Central Lakes College and the Center of Excellence at Bemidji State University have scheduled the Summer Engineering and Manufacturing (SEaM) Camp for July 9-13 at the Staples campus of CLC.
SEaM camp is for students in grades 6-12 and runs from 8:30 a.m. to 3 p.m. during each of the five days. The camp will accept up to 38 students.
It is an opportunity to experience hands-on electronics, motor controllers, mechanical drafting, manufacturing machining, and robotics automated systems.
