Enjoy a winter evening on snowshoes as the light of lanterns guides your way along the Schoolcraft Trail in Itasca State Park between 5:30 and 8 p.m.
Meet at the Mary Gibbs Mississippi Headwaters Center and snowshoe at your own pace during this drop-in program. For added fun, bring along s’mores fixings or hot dogs for cooking at the campfire. Limited snowshoes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis.
Members of “Alabaster Falls,” Bill and Julie Kaiser will perform inside the Mary Gibbs Café from 6:30-8 p.m. They are an acoustic folkgrass band based in the Northwoods.

Headwaters Center for Lifelong Learning presents Mike Roberts’ “The Last Keeper at Split Rock,” from 1-2:30 p.m. at Northwoods Bank community room.
Roberts travels throughout Minnesota giving speeches about his U.S. Coast Guard experience on the North Shore of Lake Superior, including search and rescue at the Duluth Lifeboat Station and the North Superior Lifeboat station in Grand Marais.
Friends of Headwaters Lifelong Learning Center are also invited to arrive early and attend the noon annual corporate meeting of HCLL’s 501c3 corporation, where the annual financial report will be available, and board members and officers will be elected.
WEDNESDAY, FEB. 25
The Headwaters Adult Slow Pitch Softball league will be meeting 7 p.m. in the basement of the Park Rapids Eagles Club to organize for the season. Mens, Womens, Over 35 and Co-Ed leagues are available. All new and returning teams are invited to attend this important informational meeting. Team registration begins on Feb. 25. There will also be discussion about starting a Co-Ed Kickball night this year. Let’s play ball!

The Nevis-Pam Lindow Foundation Dollars for Scholars will host a February Follies and Pie Social at Nevis School. Homemade, baked pies will be on sale, with all proceeds going to Nevis student scholarships.
A Wild Game Benefit Dinner for the Park Rapids Eagles Club will be held from 1-5 p.m. Freewill donations accepted. Proceeds go toward the Eagles’ building fund. Enjoy wild game and drink specials.

Joel Karsten, author of “Straw Bale Gardens,” visits the Park Rapids Area Library at 10:30 a.m. Learn how to create your own straw bale garden during this entertaining and educational program. There’ll be time for questions and answers and an opportunity to purchase Karsten’s popular book.
Local chili chefs will compete in the 6th annual Chili Challenge, hosted by the Park Rapids Enterprise, from 11 a.m.-1 p.m. at the Park Rapids American Legion. Teams, individuals, businesses, civic organizations and church groups cook up a pot of hot chili and serve their specialty concoction – a dollar per dollop (a cupful) – to hungry participants. Proceeds benefit the Hubbard County Food Shelf.

“Seeds to Bees to Table: How local agriculture has changed” will be presented from 1-4 p.m. at the Century Elementary School cafetorium.
This free program will feature Ojibwe presenters speaking about their history of agriculture in Minnesota, the impact of white people’s agricultural practices on indigenous farming and how resulting conflicts are addressed.
The panel of presenters includes the University of Minnesota Extension Service, Master Gardeners, a bee expert and one man’s experience with a Victory garden in World War II.
Exhibitors will provide information about their approaches to growing and marketing safe and sustainable food. Participants include the Hubbard County Soil and Water Conservation District, Natural Resources Conservation Service, Farm Service Agency, farmers markets, community garden organizers and others.
