The days preceding Christmas are not always cheerful.
Rev. Jean McKinney and Rev. Doyle Turner will present a special program, "It is a Blue Christmas for Some of Us!" at 2 p.m. today (Wednesday) at Trinity Episcopal and Presbyterian Church.
The event is free and open to the public.
Bring a friend and come to listen or to share. Coping skills and the power of prayer will be discussed for those experiencing health concerns, stress, loneliness, depression, loss of a loved one, job loss, divorce, financial concerns or hurting of any kind.

Thursday, Dec. 13
Park Rapids Retired Military Group will meet at 6 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at Dorset Café.
Participants will have a ($5 limit) gift exchange.

Wondering what it takes to jump into your first triathlon? Participated in a few triathlons and want to learn more about the aspects of a swim, bike, run?
A triathlon informational meeting will be held from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 in the Park Rapids Area Library downstairs meeting room.

This meeting will give you the scoop on the sport of triathlon and tell you what it takes to jump in to your first event.
Nevis Triathlon registration opens Jan. 2 and fills in a few hours. Come learn what it takes to get entered and ready for your first "try."

The Twin Cities' favorite front men, Mick Sterling and Brave New Workshop musical director Peter Guertin, will perform a holiday show, "At Christmas," at 7:30 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Historic Holmes Theatre.
"At Christmas" is a unique blend of family-fueled comedy and drama, featuring a live, five-piece band. The wonderfully simple and minimal show is driven by stories and music that will ring true with family members of all ages.
"At Christmas" is a reflection of what the holidays are for all families - funny, poignant, and heartwarmingly tender.

The Wadena Whirlaways square dance club will whirl from 7:30 to 10 p.m. Thursday, Dec. 13 at the Wadena VFW.

Friday, Dec. 14
A country-style barbecue rib dinner will be served from 4 to 7:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at the Park Rapids American Legion.
Proceeds of the event benefit the Community Fish House project, enabling senior citizens, handicapped, disabled, veterans, social organizations and others an opportunity to go ice fishing at no charge.
Advance tickets at a reduced price for the dinner are available until Tuesday, Dec. 11 at the Legion, Delaney's, Northern Bait, Smokey Hills Outdoors or from a Minnesota Darkhouse and Angling Association member.
The Park Rapids Eagles Auxiliary will serve a ham dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at the Eagles Club, Highway 34 east.
The menu includes ham, potato, vegetable, soup, salad bar and dessert.

Proceeds benefit the Headwaters Animal Shelter.
The Friendly Squares will square dance Friday, Dec. 14 at Century School.
A "plus" workshop will be from 7:30 to 8 p.m. with mainstream dancing from 8 to 10 p.m.
The caller will be Myron Hollatz and Donna Stone will cue round dancing between trips.
Club members will furnish a potluck lunch after the dance. All square dancers and spectators are welcome.
Nemeth Art Center will host a members show party from 8 to 10 p.m. Friday, Dec. 14 at The Good Life Café.
Come celebrate the holidays, the end of another great year and the creativity of Nemeth Art Center members.
In addition to art, dessert and drinks, there will be an auction and raffle featuring artwork from the show and "An Evening of Cooking with Amy Thielen."

Ruby's Pantry Food distribution will be held Saturday, Dec. 15 at the Assumption of our Lady Catholic Church in Menahga.
Registration begins at 8 a.m. at First English Lutheran Church with the food distribution following at 10:30 a.m. at the Catholic Church. The cost is $15 per share. Bring baskets and boxes for food. Volunteers are also needed and much appreciated.

A children's Christmas program, Cutest Cupcake Contest, will be presented at 10 a.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at Menahga Assembly of God.
The public is welcome.
The Park Rapids Eagles Auxiliary will host their annual children's Christmas party beginning at 1 p.m. Sunday, Dec. 16 at the Eagles Club.
The party is for children newborn to 12 years old. A gift for each child and a light lunch will make for a fun day.
The party is open to all in the community.
Friday, Dec. 21
The Park Rapids Weston A. Price Nutrition Foundation Chapter is hosting a Nourishing Holiday Treats Challenge at 4 p.m. Friday, Dec. 21 at the Evergreen Church just west of Park Rapids.
All meetings are free and open to the public.
A contest will be held for the tastiest nourishing holiday treats. Anyone can enter the contest, or just join us sampling the treats and help decide the winner.
The rules are:
1. The recipe may not contain white sugar, white flour, or other highly processed ingredients (no agave syrup, baking mixes, etc.)
2. Bring at least one copy of the recipe with name of recipe and ingredients to display next to your item. If you can, label it GAPS approved or gluten-free, or grain-free, or just WAP approved lots of copies for people to take would be best.
3. The treat does not have to be something sweet. It can be a dip or appetizer.
A grand prize will be awarded to the winner, and a small prize given to everyone that enters the contest.
Hot tea and organic coffee will be served.
Testimonies from people who have become healthier or healed after changing their diet around will be presented.
