A "Cultural Connections Community Celebration" will be held from 2 to 8 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Bemidji Waterfront/Library Parks.
There will be cooperative and cultural games, water activities, pop-can fishing, Native arts and crafts, interactive demonstrations and information booths, food, and entertainment.
Thursday, Aug. 19
Don Houseman will sign copies of his children's picture books, "How Harvey and His Friends Saved the Barn" and "The Great Fishing Adventure" from 9 a.m. to noon at Bookworld in Park Rapids.

Houseman is a retired school teacher from Blackduck and lives outside of Tenstrike.
The Park Rapids Lakes Area Arts Council will present Youth Music & Arts Showcase II Thursday, Friday and Saturday, Aug. 19, 20 and 21.
From Thursday through Sunday, young people's original artwork, including pen and ink drawings, beadwork, reverse glass painting, oils, acrylics and spray paint art, will be displayed in store windows.
Preschoolers are invited to "paint the town," displaying their creativity with chalk art at Pioneer Park, on side streets and in alleys Friday morning.
Sidewalk chalk will be available at Wildwood Enchantment.
Talented young musicians will perform Friday afternoon as follows: 1 p.m. - piano and violin students at Bella Caffé, 2 p.m. - Acoustic Pilots at Moose Creek Village, 3 p.m. - Alex Ziemann at Jack Pine Cafe and 4 p.m. - Eric Bervig at Good Life Café.
The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at the Eddie R. Jokela Rodeo & Auction Grounds pavilion. The grounds will open at 7 p.m.
Individuals 11 years and older are invited to enroll in a Minnesota firearm safety course to be held in the Environmental Education building at the fairgrounds in Park Rapids.

The class will run from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Thursday and Friday, Aug. 19 and 20.
Registration will be held from 5 to 7 p.m. today (Wednesday) at the Environmental Education building. Books will be handed out and fees collected for the course.
There is no maximum age limit for participants taking the course.
Topics to be covered will include safe firearm handling, firearm care, hunter ethics and responsibility, wildlife management, field testing and other topics.
The course fee of $7.50 covers the cost of materials. Each student is required to bring a self-addressed, stamped business-size envelope at the time of registration.

Friday, Aug. 20
The Mantrap Valley Conservation Club is hosting a burger and corn dinner from 5 to 7 p.m. Friday, Aug. 20 at the clubhouse located 1.5 miles east of Emmaville on County Road 24.

The meal includes burgers, corn on the cob, baked beans and homemade pies.

The public is invited to Howard Maninga's Vietnam Veterans Memorial for the flag raising and all veterans tribute program at 1 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21 at the home of Howard and Trudy Maninga.

The Forestedge Winery Art Fair will be held from 10 a.m. to 5:30 p.m. Saturday, Aug. 21, and from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Sunday, Aug. 22.
Located 14 miles north of Akeley on Highway 64, the Forestedge Winery Art Fair features art, wine, food and fun. Admission and parking are free.

Thirty artists were invited to showcase their work at the art fair this year.
During the art fair, all of Forestedge's wines are available for sampling. The winery's cafeteria will offer an eclectic variety of foods during the art fair, from wild rice soup to shrimp cocktails to pulled pork sandwiches. Nuts and ice cream will be available from specialty booths set up around the winery grounds.
The event will include Celtic folk singers in the mornings and a jazz band each afternoon.
The 35th annual Lake Itasca Pioneer Farmers show is Friday through Sunday, Aug. 20-22 at the north side of Itasca State Park on Highway 200.
Lake Itasca Region Pioneer Farmers is a non-profit corporation dedicated to the preservation and display of historic, rural/logging related Americana for the cultural, educational, entertainment and heritage-related benefits of the public. Incorporated in 1976, LIRPF has been located by Minnesota's Itasca State Park since 1990.
Admission is $10 for a three-day pass and children under 12 are admitted free. The food building and snack shack are open all day. Tickets include admission to a three-day flea market held on the grounds and the third annual National Scale Model Builders Convention being held at the same time.
Friday's events include a parade at 1 p.m., supper at 5 p.m. and a country gospel music show that includes the coronation of the 2010-11 Pioneer King and Queen.
Saturday's events start with a breakfast at 7 a.m. A special cancellation will be held at the Post Office from 9 a.m. to noon. A parade is at 1 p.m., kids' pedal-tractor pull at 2 p.m., supper at 5 p.m. and a country/old time music show and "Glo-Stick" show at 10 p.m.

Sunday's events kick off with breakfast from 6:30 - 8:30 a.m., worship service at 9 a.m., parade at 1 p.m. and an old time tractor pull following the parade.
New exhibits include the historic Lake Itasca Post Office with completely restored 1940 interior and early 1900s Redby Machine Shop with machines and equipment. Another area adjacent to this site houses the historic Itasca Park sawmill, the equally historic A.J. Levorsen sawmill engine, and the Roy Hemmerich Logging Memorial.
