Uff Da! Days celebration will be in Nevis Aug. 26-27

Yah, sure, ya betcha, Nevis will once again be the site of Scandinavian shenanigans when members of lakeside village celebrate their heritage Aug. 26-27.

Yah, sure, ya betcha, Nevis will once again be the site of Scandinavian shenanigans when members of lakeside village celebrate their heritage Aug. 26-27.

The 8th annual Uff Da! Days feature ethnic food, music and entertainment, a grand parade, contests and prizes and the continuing saga of Ole and Lena.

A Krone hunt begins Wednesday, Aug. 24 with clues posted each morning at the Muskie Pavilion. Winner of the prestigious award will be announced at noon Saturday.

Friday's events include Avery's Walk for Wildlife at 5:30 p.m., with proceeds donated to the International Wolf Center in Ely.

Games of bingo begin at 6:30 p.m. at the Nevis Senior Center.

A teen dance will be from 6 to 8 p.m. and street dance from 8:30 p.m. to 12:30 a.m. with music by Spitfire.

Saturday's events include a horseshoe pitching contest at 10 a.m., registration beginning at 9:30 a.m.

Kids games begin at 11 a.m. and a kids fishing tourney at the Belle Taine pier will be from 11 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. Kids can hop aboard a fire truck for a tour from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m.

Uff Da earrings (fish tackle), Scandinavian flags and the first-ever, hot-off-the press Uff Da Cookbooks will be marketed at the bizarre bazaar. Flea marketers will line the Heartland.

Serving of the delectable, much anticipated menu of lutefisk, Swedish meatballs and lefse begins at 11 a.m. at Bethany Lutheran Church.

Square dancers will perform at noon. An ice cream eating contest begins at 1 p.m., an egg toss at 1:45 p.m., sack races at 2:15 p.m. and a coin dig for kids at 3 p.m.

Ole and Lena will take the stage at 4 p.m. on Main to present the chronicle, "Heading to da Nortland of America."

At 6 p.m. the grand parade will head down the Paul Bunyan Trail (CSAH 2). Floats are welcome; contact Russ Hensel or Angi Trelstad at 652-4421.

Hit Man Al will orchestrate karaoke on Main from 8 p.m. to midnight.
