Volunteers are needed to prep meals for curbside pick-up or delivery at the 2021 Thank Meal, like these shown here last year.

Volunteers, store-bought pies and monetary donations are sought for the 39th annual Park Rapids Community Thank Meal.

Like last year, all Thanksgiving meals will be either delivered or curbside pick-up on Thanksgiving Day. There will be no dining at Riverside United Methodist Church (RUMC).

Leah Quinn and Krista Johnson, co-chairs of the event, want to focus on providing meals to those who are in need, such as an inability to afford to purchase food or being homebound.

All take-out and delivery meals must be ordered by Monday, Nov. 22.

“We are also looking for volunteers for food prep the day prior to Thanksgiving and delivery drivers the day of Thanksgiving,” Quinn said.

Arvig has donated a turkey hotline at 237-TRKY (8759) for volunteers to register and for the public to order meals. Hot meals will be delivered within a 15-mile radius of Park Rapids’ city limits.

Turkey, dressing, mashed potatoes and gravy, sweet potatoes, green beans and buns will be delivered between 10:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day. Curbside pick-up will be conducted under the church awning between 12:30 and 2 p.m.

Organizers could use the community’s financial support.

Typically, Quinn said, the main source of income for the Thank Meal has come from those eating onsite, so there is concern about raising enough funds to help pay for ingredients and supplies. For those who are able to donate, checks may be sent to RUMC, P.O. Box 128, Park Rapids, MN 56470. Net proceeds are distributed to local charities.

In the interest of everyone’s safety and health, only store-bought pies may be donated, Quinn said. Homemade pies cannot be accepted.
