'Small town, big celebration' Aug. 12-13 in Laporte

The 12th annual Laporte Days will be held Aug. 12-14 "in the small town with the big heart/big celebration" - Laporte.
Rollerskating for kids will be from 6:30 to 9 p.m. Friday at the Laporte School. Come in the main entrance of the school. Vendors have supplied over $200 in prizes with 75 chances to win door prizes to be given away throughout the evening.
The second annual Cemetery Walk will begin at 7 p.m. Friday at the Lakeport Cemetery. Presenter Karen Keener will share information on several veterans during the 40-minute "Remembering Our Veterans" walk.
Lions will be serving a pancake breakfast from 7 to 10 a.m. Saturday in the Baptist Church basement.
Paul Bunyan Radio Control Flyers will demonstrate their aircraft.
New this year is a Memorial Run/Walk Saturday on the Paul Bunyan Trail.
Registration for the event will be at the DNR parking lot from 7 a.m. to 7:45 a.m. with the race beginning at 8 a.m.
Lakeport Fire Department will host an open house and pig roast from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. Young kids will enjoy games and races at 4:30 p.m. and Rock Sober Funtime will engage older kids in the evening.
Bingo will be played from 7 to 10 p.m. Saturday in the Lakeport Fire Hall.
Sunday, area churches invite all for worship.
Organizers are inviting local businesses and neighboring towns from Lake George to Wilkinson, Walker to Bemidji to bring a float to the 3 p.m. Sunday parade.

The kiddie parade begins at 2:30 p.m. with line-up at the Baptist Church parking lot at 2 p.m. A new ruling this year for the kiddie parade is no animals or motorized vehicles allowed.
After the parade, a hot dog eating contest will be held in front of the Lions' tent. Post-parade entertainment begins at 4 p.m. Raffle winners will be announced at 5 p.m.
The event also includes a flea market, crafts and food vendors, with the Lion's lunch wagon opening at 11a.m. each day.
