Perham's Heritage Fest, planned for this Saturday and Sunday, Aug. 15-16, will feature a native powwow.
Powwow coordinator Dennis Hisgun is the same person who runs the White Earth and Mahnomen powwows, and will also serve as master of ceremonies for the event. Tom Mason is the ring director, and Lil Redtail will be the host drum.
Grand entries are planned at 1 and 6 p.m. on Saturday, and again on Sunday at 1 p.m.
The Perham Pioneer Grounds will be filled with live demonstrations, from chair caning to lefse making, and there will also be a host of other exhibits and vendors.
Clan Tartan will host a Scottish encampment on-site, and share their dances and heritage with festival visitors.

There will also be a Black Powder Rendezvous at the festival site, where people can walk through a historically accurate encampment and watch them load and shoot black powder rifles.
A Saturday night dance will be held, featuring music by the Lakes Country Band, and there will also be an evening bonfire featuring native storytellers.
Also on Saturday night, there will be a turkey sandwich feed starting at 5 p.m., with proceeds going toward upkeep of the Pioneer Grounds.
The Perham Lions will serve breakfast on Sunday, starting at 7 a.m., and there will be a flower show going on in the ballroom throughout the day.
Other Sunday events include an ice cream social in the afternoon, as well as a car show and petting zoo.
There will be live music in the bandstand during both days of the festival, as well as kids' games and a pedal tractor pull.
