Fall starts early with scarecrows, 'Akeley Idol' at annual Hay Days

The second annual Akeley Hay Days will begin Friday, Sept. 18 and run all day Saturday, Sept. 19.

Friday's events will start at noon with the scarecrow setup. Scarecrows will be judged at 3 p.m. Saturday. The bullhead fishing contest kicks off at 6 p.m. Friday with registration at 5 p.m. at the Patio.

Friday night, talented voices will get to show off and compete in the "Akeley Idol" that will be held at 6:30 p.m. for ages 15 and under and at 8 p.m. for ages 16 and older. Karaoke and dance will follow.

Saturday's activities begin at 10 a.m. with weigh-in for the bullhead fishing contest. Carnival games provided by the St. John's Lutheran Church youth group will also be held from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. meanwhile, pony rides by Pine River Riding Stables will be available.

A cribbage tournament will be held at 11 a.m. at the Patio. Contact Wicks Wood products to sign up. A hillbilly horseshoe tournament will be held at noon and a cake walk will follow at 1 p.m.

A pork chop supper will be served from 4:30 to 7 p.m. at the Patio by the Akeley Civic and Commerce and a dance will conclude the festivities from 7 p.m. to midnight.
