Downtown Park Rapids businesses will go all out to make shopping fun Thursday and Friday, July 22-23.

On Thursday, free entertainment, street vendors and community organizations will add a bonus to shoppers’ bargains.

It all starts with a pet and costume parade at 9 a.m. on the first three blocks of Main Avenue. If you don’t have a pet, dress up as your favorite animal. Registration and lineup start at 8:30 a.m. on the fourth block of Main. Please leash your pet. There will be prize drawings for those who sign up.

The Park Rapids Downtown Business Association and Friends of the Library will sponsor Curtis Alan Hed’s magic show with a one-hour “Close-Up Magic” pre-show at 9:15 a.m. and a 45-minute “Magic of Reading” show at 10:30 a.m. in Pioneer Park. Both shows are free.

Big Show Entertainment will provide a soundtrack for much of the day, playing musical hits on the main stage.

Smoke Stack, a five-member drum group from Pine Point, will play on the stage at 1 p.m. Bring your own chairs to listen.

More kids’ entertainment is planned for Thursday afternoon, including a fishing booth and bean bag toss. Participants will receive a “crazy fun bag” with Crayons and a coloring page, bubbles, miniature glow sticks, balloons and gift certificates while supplies last. A face painter will be there, too.

And don’t forget the 2nd Street Stage event at 6 p.m., with the beer garden and social hour opening at 5 p.m.
