Cowboys won’t compete for their eight seconds of fame in Park Rapids this summer.
Randy Jokela, CEO of Jokela ProWest Productions, announced that the PRCA Xtreme Bull Ride and Pro Rodeo scheduled for July 2-4 will not be held.
“It’s with a heavy heart that we have made the difficult decision to cancel the Park Rapids rodeo for 2020. Right now, the future for sporting events is incredibly uncertain, and we are doing our best to navigate this uncharted territory for the health of all involved,” he said in a written statement. “COVID-19 has also forced the cancellation or postponement of numerous other pro rodeos across the U.S. and Canada.”
Jokela said he is following the direction of state and local health officials “to insure the safety of our enthusiastic and loyal fans.”
He continued, “After making Park Rapids the ‘rodeo capital of Minnesota’ for over 40 years, we would be remiss at not taking every step possible to protect our dedicated supporters and slow the spread of this virus. We're looking forward to 2021. We will keep you posted on any future announcements, and stay safe.”
