Park Rapids High School Drama Department to present comedy “The Love of Three Oranges”
From the rich traditions of commedia dell’arte comes a brand new version of a classic Italian fairy tale. Based on a scenario by Carlo Gozzi and inspired by his original project, “The Love of Three Oranges” by Hillary DePiano is a wild, raucous, slapstick comedy completely reworked, revised and redone for today’s audiences. “You will find that this has a little bit of everything to tickle your funny bone,” said drama director Juliann Kjenaas. Prince Tartaglia's life is filled with misery until an evil witch casts a spell sending him on a quest for three giant oranges. This quest, however, soon proves more fruitful than he could have imagined. Once he leaves the castle he finds a friend in a clown, love in an orange and, most of all, laughter in everything he meets. Throw in witches, wizards, princesses, a unionized devil, a few ferocious inanimate objects, melodramatic monarchs and narrators who aren’t sure how far removed from the story they are and what you have in the end is a flurry of comedy and parody. Performances are 7:00 p.m. Friday and Saturday, Dec. 4-5 at in the high school auditorium. Adult tickets are $6, senior citizens are $4 and students are free.
