A tsunami of fun is about to sweep over the village.

Kinship conspirators are rallying teams for the 2013 Amazing Chase to be held Saturday, Aug. 24.

Twenty teams in two divisions­ – adult and family – will embark on bamboozling adventure. Many of last year’s conniving businesses and community organizations are on board again this year to thwart contestants’ bids for best time.

Teams of four to six friends and/or family members compete in 10 challenges located around Park Rapids. Participants may choose the competitive or family division (with at least two members required to be 10 or under in the family category).

Each team is to have transportation (horse and buggy is frowned upon) and be able to receive updates during the race via text messaging.

A single team could win up to $1,000; $500 will be awarded to the first place team in each division and there will be a $500 bonus drawing.

All teams are automatically entered in the bonus drawing with their $250 registration fee. Teams get one additional entry in the drawing for every $50 above the registration fee.

Other prizes will be awarded to the top finishing teams. A challenge point system determines winners at each site.

The event begins with a mandatory Chase meeting at 1:30 p.m. with a shotgun start at 2 p.m.

At approximately 4 p.m., all teams participate in the final challenge, which could send the top dog down a rank or two.

A free picnic follows. The public is invited for a freewill donation.

The 2012 event, celebrating Kinship’s 20th anniversary, raised over $6,000.

Last year’s dastardly deviant hosts had competitors sifting through a bucket of worms for coins, searching for an exact amount. They matched nuts and bolts and famous faces with corresponding currency, found obscure grocery items, made a Jell-o box pyramid and were handcuffed and arrested by the sheriff himself.

This year, the wheels are turning for tomfoolery on a grand scale.

Registration forms are available on the Kinship of Park Rapids website, and at Citizens National Bank and the Trading Post. Every team member must complete a waiver.

Teams should appoint a captain and determine a name. T-shirts will be given to all contestants.

Register early; last year’s teams were already planning strategy for 2013 before their tennies were untied.
