Members of the Itasca-Mantrap Cooperative Electrical Association awarded grants totaling $30,000 to 67 community programs on Nov. 6.

Christine Fox, president and CEO of Itasca-Mantrap, explained that the co-op’s members have the option to round their bill up to the next dollar. “Then,” she said, “they contribute those pennies to Operation Round Up Trust.”

Twice a year, the trust board reviews the latest grant applications and decides how much will go to each project, Fox said.

“I know that each and every one of you puts in a lot of time for the organization you represent,” she told the recipients. “Without you, those grants wouldn’t get written, and we would not be able to fund your organizations.”

Trust board member Rhonda Lageson handed out checks to representatives of the awarded projects for the current six-month period.
