Original Stencil offers screen-printing
Longtime entrepreneurs Angela and Rob Miller have opened a new business on Birch Street. Original Stencil, located one block south of Super 8, offers screen-printing and design services. All the work is done in-house by the Millers. “We felt there was a need for a screen-printing business with regular store hours and a place you could get one-on-one customer service,” Angela said.
When the couple had t-shirts made in the past, they found most of the work was either outsourced or home-based. Online screen-printing businesses often have limited capabilities. “It was tough to communicate, especially if you wanted a customized shirt,” Rob said. “Online was cumbersome.” Original Stencil offers competitive pricing and gives clients more control over the final product. “It’s nice to be able to come into a store,” said Angela. “When you really want something tweaked, it’s easier to talk to someone. It’s nice to have that attention.” The couple brings their attention to detail and creative flair to Original Stencil. “We’ve been self-employed forever,” Angela said of their 24 years of business savvy. Customers may supply their own logo or the Millers can create an original one. With his artistic background and experience with computer drafting, Rob serves as the main graphic designer. “Rob has a great eye for detail. He’s meticulous,” Angela said.
The Millers launched Original Stencil after intensive training on the screen-printing process. They attended numerous seminars, online courses and expos. “It’s a continuous learning environment,” said Rob. “There’s always new ink, new techniques,” Angela agreed. Original Stencil provides bulk order printing on a variety of shirts, sweatshirts, jackets, sweatpants and other clothing items. They also offer reflective or glow-in-the-dark printing. Company logos, team names and other graphics can be printed on a host of fabric styles – from cottons and blends to nylon jackets and athletic apparel. The minimum order is 24 pieces. Potential clients include resorts, businesses, family reunions, church events, marathons, fun runs, sports events, bars and grills. “I think that’s the most fun part of this business – the variety between individual projects,” Rob said. Business hours are Monday through Friday 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
