Boys Hockey: Panthers defeat South St. Paul
Jaxson Lund's two goals and goals by Coby Hagen, Nash Mitchell and Liam Torola sparked the 5-3 victory.
Third-period goals by Liam Torola and Jaxson Lund gave the Park Rapids-Menahga-Walker-Hackensack-Akeley boys hockey team a 5-3 win over South St. Paul at the Ted O. Johnson Ice Arena on Saturday, Dec. 4.
Park Rapids jumped out to a 2-0 lead behind goals by Coby Hagen and Nash Mitchell. Parker Vinge assisted on Hagen’s goal while Lund set up Mitchell. Roddick Simons’ goal made it 2-1 after the first period.
Jake Mauer scored to tie the game at 2-2 before Mitchell and Quincy Jantz assisted on a goal by Lund to give the Panthers a 3-2 lead. Matt Elsner’s power-play goal tied the game at 3-3 entering the final period.
Torola scored the game-winner before Mitchell and Joey Hillukka assisted on an insurance goal by Lund.
Goalie Collin Hoyt made 22 saves as the Panthers held a 31-25 edge in shots on goal. The win gave Park Rapids a 2-1 record while the Packers fell to 1-1.
