After giving up two goals in the final two minutes in a 3-2 loss to East Grand Forks, the Park Rapids-Menahga-Nevis-Walker-Hackensack-Ake-ley girls hockey team responded by not allowing a goal in skating to three straight shutouts. The Panthers shut out Long Prairie-Grey Eagle/ Wadena-Deer Creek for the second time this season with a 9-0 victory last Tuesday night at Wadena. Park Rapids then followed a 3-0 win at Lake of the Woods Thursday night with a 3-0 victory over Eveleth-Gilbert Saturday afternoon at the Ted O.
After a slow start, the Park Rapids boys swimming and diving team took control to defeat Thief River Falls Tuesday night and end the dual-meet season with a winning record. The Panthers fell behind 10-4 after the 200-yard medley relay, but won the next four events to take the lead for good en route to a 101-79 victory at the Area High School pool. The win gave Todd Fritze's team a 4-2 record in dual meets this season. Dilworth-Glyndon-Felton followed a 17-0 run with a 17-1 run in building a 55-14 halftime lead en route to an 84-22 victory over the Park Rapids girls basketball team Monday night at the Area High School gym. Baskets by Amber Booge and Megan Grimes kept Park Rapids within 8-4 at the 14:57 mark of the first half before the Rebels used a 3-pointer by Kinzie Molstre and a pair of inside baskets by Kelly Bergee to claim a 25-4 lead. Back-to-back baskets by Charity Ridlon ended that run and Katie Klein followed with a jumper as the Panthers trailed 32-10 with 7:22 remaining in the first half.
Receiving season highs in three events led the Park Rapids-Nevis gymnastics team to its season high team score in the final home meet of the season Tuesday night. The Panthers used scores of 32.70 in vault, 29.45 in floor exercise and 27.35 on balance beam to surpass their previous high of 112.05 points in a 137.95 to 113.65 loss to Detroit Lakes at the Area High School gym. Emily Klingenberg's 8.65, Savannah Gatewood's 8.15, and a pair of 7.95s by Kayla Johnk and Taylor Drury led the Panthers in vault.
Caleb Baker's third 3-pointer of the first half capped a 38-10 run that led Crosby-Ironton to a 72-46 Mid-State Conference win over the Park Rapids boys basketball team Tuesday night at Crosby. Baker scored 13 points while Jacob Goodwin and Daniel Hudrlik added 11 points apiece as the Rangers built a 45-18 lead at the break.
Five pins down the stretch sparked the Park Rapids wrestling team to a 46-29 win over West Central Area Tuesday night at Barrett. The Panthers trailed 29-13 before rallying for the win behind five straight pins and a minor decision in the final six matches. WCA used four pins and a technical fall win to build the early lead.
Emily Klingenberg won all four events and the all-around title in leading the Park Rapids-Nevis gymnastics team to a 109.10 to 102.10 victory over Frazee Thursday night at the Area High School gym. Klingenberg received scores of 8.60 in vault, 8.30 in floor exercise, 7.45 on balance beam and 7.30 on uneven parallel bars for a 31.65 all-around score in leading the Panthers to their first dual-meet victory of the season. Eleven pins and eight forfeits led the Park Rapids wrestling team to a pair of dual-meet victories Friday night at Oklee. The Panthers used six pins and three forfeits for a 58-21 win over Parkers Prairie before five pins and five forfeits led to a 60-21 victory over Red Lake County Central. Jared Sunram (at 106 pounds), Nolan Booge (at 113), Ben Baumgartner (at 120), Justin Dravis (at 138), Forrest Drury (at 170) and John Kyllonen (at 182) recorded pins for the Panthers against Parkers Prairie.
