Two people were injured in a two-vehicle crash in Becker County on Saturday night. According to the Minnesota State Patrol, Dustin Martin, 34, of Hawley was driving a Toyota 4Runner east on Highway 34 near milepost 68 when he crossed the center line. Robert Knight, 51, of Nevis was driving a Dodge Ram pickup westbound on Highway 34 when he was sideswiped by Martin, the patrol reports. Both vehicles drove into the north ditch, where Martin’s vehicle rolled.
With daytime temperatures still climbing above freezing even in the northern parts of the state, the Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is reminding outdoor enthusiasts to stay clear of early ice and use extreme caution when recreating on dangerously cold water. Although some locations in the northern and western regions of the state were reporting ice formation at the end of November, the recent fluctuations in weather have led to degraded ice conditions and warnings from public safety officials to stay off the ice until at least 4 inches of new, clear ice is present.
Two men have been arrested for second-degree murder in the disappearance of a Minnesota woman and a body has been found in a shallow grave northwest of Bemidji. Marchello Anthony Cimmarusti, 40, and Brandon Joseph Rossbach, 31, were arrested in the case of Rose Downwind, 31, of Redby, a mother of five who was last seen Oct. 21, the Bemidji Police Department said Thursday. Cimmarusti, who already was in custody on domestic abuse charges and other violations, was arrested on the charges overnight.
