BEMIDJI — A man was taken into custody Thursday evening after law enforcement used a gas irritant to force him out of a local residence. According to a release, at approximately 6:53 p.m. a female reported to the Bemidji Police Department that while at a residence in the 700 block of Ninth Street NW, her fiancee had been acting erratically and she allegedly heard him loading a shotgun. She also saw him barricading the doors to the residence.
Brittany Jeanette Degroat, 26, and John Duvall Canova, 35, both of 209 11th Ave. Apt. 201, Detroit Lakes, have each been charged in Becker County District Court with felony taking moveable property. According to court records, the two of them allegedly stole more than $1,000 worth of electronics from Walmart March 1-2, taking two Pioneer stereo systems, a DVD/CD player, headphones and other items.
A man was pulled from a car floating in the Otter Tail River on Monday near here after the vehicle was driven off a bridge on Highway 10, the Minnesota State Patrol reported. The driver, Kermit M. Lyngaas, 75, Detroit Lakes, was transported to a hospital with injuries that were not life-threatening, the patrol reported. The name of the hospital was not included in the report. Lyngaas was westbound on Highway 10 east of Perham about milepost 68 about 2:30 p.m. when his Dodge Nitro left the road.
At approximately 4:00 P.M., the Beltrami County Sheriff’s Office was notified of an ATV crash in Hines Township on private land located 1.5 miles west of Blackduck on County Rd.
On June 15, 2015 at 8:00 p.m., the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a young child that had been struck by a vehicle on Dovetail Road, near Park Rapids. Officers arrived to find the one year-old child dead at the scene. The investigation showed that 51 year old, Roderick Dewinter, of Park Rapids, had driven to the child’s residence. As he was going to move his vehicle the child was struck and run over by the vehicle. This incident remains under investigation by the Hubbard County Sheriff’s Office.
THIEF RIVER FALLS, Minn. -- A man at the center of an hours-long standoff Thursday in Thief River Falls has turned himself in. Eric James Reinbold, 38, of Oklee, Minn., was arrested at the Pennington County Jail in Thief River Falls around 9 a.m. Saturday morning. He faces three charges of second degree assault, all with a penalty of up to seven years in prison, a $14,000 fine or both.
BEMIDJI, Minn. -- A Clearwater County Sheriff's Office deputy has been placed on unpaid leave after allegedly entering a Clearbrook, Minn., residence while intoxicated. According to a release from Clearwater County Sheriff Darin Halverson, the sheriff's office received a call at 12:01 a.m. Sunday of an intruder in a residence on the 200 block of First Avenue in Clearbrook.
