Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on June 17, 2015 at approximately 10:22 AM, the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a request for medical assistance at a residence in the Backus area. The victim, Charles Linn, age 74, of Backus MN was transported to a St Cloud Hospital, where he died. Further investigation revealed that Linn had been struck at the end of his driveway by a tire that came off a dump truck. A 13-year-old girl was injured in an ATV crash Monday night in Lyon's Township, Wadena County. The Wadena County Sheriff's Office received a report of the crash at about 7 p.m. Monday, June 15 in section 28 of Lyon's Township. It was learned that the 13-year-old had rolled the ATV while traveling on a gravel driveway at speeds of approximately 30 mph.

Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch reports that an investigation by the Cass County Sheriff’s Office resulted in the apprehension of two female suspects in the early morning hours of June 18, 2015. Deputies from the Cass County Sheriff’s Office and members of the Leech Lake Tribal Police Department obtained information about the trafficking of illegal prescription pills being brought into the Cass Lake area.
Motorcycle rider deaths are significantly higher compared to this time last year. Twenty-five riders have died on Minnesota roads so far in 2015, which is 56 percent more than this time last year when there were 16 motorcycle fatalities. The latest motorcycle death happened Thursday, June 18, around 9:30 p.m.during a pursuit on County Road 75 near County Road 7 in Stearns County. The driver was thrown from the motorcycle and pronounced dead at the scene.
