Akeley’s 66th annual event celebrating the legendary logger, Paul Bunyan, will be held June 27-29 with fun and frolic for all ages. Paul Bunyan Days kicks off with a fish fry Friday evening on Paul’s Patio followed by a dance for youth, with prizes awarded. Paul Albright will have a woodcarving exhibition starting at 5 p.m. Friday.
Northstar Ensemble will be featured at the Noon Hour Concert on Thursday, June 26, 12:15 to 12:45 p.m. at Faithbridge Church in Park Rapids. Musical numbers include a Presto by Haydn, some “Water Music” by Handel and a Minuet in G by Bach, ala Lorie Line, and current music by the Beatles, (When I’m 64), a traditional waltz (The Westphalia Waltz) and a traditional folk tune, (The Water is Wide) arranged by Hal Hopson.
BISMARCK - Enterprise Products Partners LP said on Tuesday it will build a 1,200-mile pipeline from North Dakota's Bakken oil fields to Cushing, Oklahoma. The pipeline, Enterprise's first in North Dakota, would help transport more of the state's crude oil to Cushing, a key gathering and distribution hub for oil produced around the United States. The pipeline would originate in Stanley, North Dakota, and be 30 inches in diameter.
The Sounds of Spirit Lake 2014 concert series opens at 7 p.m. Friday, June 27 on the shore of Spirit Lake in Menahga. Rain venue is the auditorium of the Menahga School. The Park Rapids Area Community Band will be performing several pieces, including Armed Forces Salute to honor our Veterans. If you served our country in the military, please come and be recognized as your branch of the military’s song will be played. Also on the concert list is a Finnish composition, Majakkasaari (Lighthouse Island).
Park Rapids is the place to be on the Fourth of July. In fact, organizers of the annual fireworks display are boasting that Park Rapids has the biggest and best fireworks display in Minnesota on the Fourth. We have to agree. Have you attended? If not, you are missing out! Fireworks are launched in Heartland Park and reflect onto Fish Hook River. Crowds of people gather throughout Heartland and Red Bridge parks as the sun sets to get the perfect spot to watch the show. Others come by boat as they travel from Fish Hook Lake along the river to gather near the park.
WEDNESDAY, JUNE 25 Blank Canvas Gallery online owners Judy and Jerry Wegenast are managing this year’s Red River Fine Art Show sponsored by the Red River Watercolor Society. The show is from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. Wednesday and Thursday, June 25-26 at the Moorhead Center Mall. An artist reception is from 5-7 p.m. June 25. The event is free and open to the public. The Cass County Attorney’s Office announces that Carl Andrew Raba (age 43) was convicted by a Cass County jury of four counts of Ineligible Person in Possession of a Firearm, one Count of Fifth Degree Controlled Substance Crime, and one count of Receiving Stolen Property with a Value of More than $5,000. The trial commenced on June 17 in the Cass County Courthouse in Walker.
