The Cass County Sheriff’s Department held its 14th annual ice rescue and training Saturday with more than two dozen agencies participating. The Cass Lake Fire Department and Hackensack Fire and Rescue helped sponsor the event, said Cass County Sheriff Tom Burch. Approximately 80 participants from over 25 agencies participated in the cold water rescue training exercise.

The Minnesota Department of Public Safety on Monday said that law enforcement officers across the state arrested fewer people for DWI on Super Bowl Sunday than past years. Across Minnesota law enforcement officers made 65 DWI arrests Sunday — that's down from an average of 190 between 2010-2014. From late Friday to early Monday officers arrested 365 drivers for DWI statewide, state officials said.
Sheriff Tom Burch reports that on January 27, 2015 at 9:50 PM the Cass County Sheriff’s Office received a report of a motor vehicle crash at the intersection of 68th Ave NW and Wakonabo Drive in Wilkinson Township, rural Cass Lake MN. Officers and responders arrived on scene and found that two vehicles had collided and several parties were injured. Essentia Health-Park Rapids Clinic is experiencing a nationwide problem of recruiting doctors to rural areas firsthand. Jodi Lorenson invites local residents to join the effort to recruit new physicians to the clinic. “We are talking to lots of physicians every week, but local candidates – the kid who grew up next door and is finishing medical school – are usually the most likely to be serious about our opportunities,” says Lorenson, an Essentia Health physician recruiter. “Every day, citizens can help in the recruiting process by sharing ideas and leads with Essentia’s recruiters.

Managing the groundwater is a huge responsibility for the citizens of this area.
