The Wolverines went toe-to-toe with Park Rapids in a Mid-State duel that ended in a 58-56 victory for the hometown Panthers. Jason Mielke's WDC team, which lost the bulk of their scoring to graduation last spring, got 16 points from Tanner Horn and 12 from Dacotah Mittag. Konnor Stueve and Alex Redfield dropped in eight apiece. The Wolverines kept the game close through both halves.
Park Rapids, Bemidji and the surrounding area are in a wind chill advisory starting Saturday afternoon into Sunday. The National Weather Service office in Grand Forks, N.D., which covers the region, said wind chill values of between 25 below to 40 below, and possibly colder in some areas, are forecast into Sunday morning. The advisory is for 3 p.m. Saturday to noon Sunday.

FARGO – A major flood here is unlikely this spring thanks to relatively dry soil and low snowpack levels, new research from the National Weather Service suggests. There is a 5 percent chance of the Red River rising above 29.6 feet in Fargo, according to the NWS report issued Tuesday. Flood stage is 18 feet and major flood stage is 30 feet.

Park Rapids reported a relatively balmy 27 below at 5 a.m. With dewpoint, that temp sunk to 33 below. A spotter near Cotton reported 42 degrees below zero as of 6 a.m., with frequent cold spot Embarrass close behind at 41 below.
