Mildred A. Johnson, 88, of Park Rapids, died Monday, April 6, 2009 at Green Pines Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. Memorial services will be at 1 p.m. Friday, April 17 at Calvary Lutheran Church in Park Rapids. Rev. Ken Nyhusmoen will be the officiant. Ardis Westrud, 64, of Willmar, died Sunday, April 5, 2009 at her home. James "Jim" Edward Sharp, 73, of Menahga, died Thursday, April 2, 2009 at Green Pine Acres Nursing Home in Menahga. He was born on July 15, 1935 to Edward and Lucille (Lyman) Sharp at Wesley Hospital in Wadena. He grew up on a farm in Wadena County and attended school at White Oak in rural Sebeka. After school, he worked doing drywall and trazzel work for Aragoni Brothers. He worked in many cities including San Francisco and Oklahoma City. He married Carol Sherk on Dec. 28, 1956.
Georgia (Erickson) Hitchcock, age 81, of Wyoming, died Thursday, March 12, 2009. She is survived by five children: Steve (Roberta), Christine Ricehill, Karen (Tom) Nesheim, Keven, and Joel (April); eight grandchildren; nine great-grandchildren; two brothers in law: Skip Hitchcock, of Wisconsin, and Dick Hitchcock, of Fergus Falls; and two sisters in law: June Terhark and Dorothy Embree, of Park Rapids. She was preceded in death by her husband, David. Funeral service: Tuesday, March 17 at Lutheran Church of the Redeemer in St. Paul. Interment: Private.
Daryl A. Sells, 74, of Akeley, died Monday, March 30, 2009 at Innovis Hospital in Fargo, N.D. She was born on Oct. 3, 1934 in Minneapolis to Mark and Anneleise (Ebner) Smith. She attended Ascension Catholic Elementary School in Minneapolis through the eighth grade and then attended North High School, graduating in 1952. In 1954, she married David R. Kalla in Minneapolis. They had six children. The young family made their home in Minneapolis. For a number of years she drove taxi for the Yellow Taxi Co. in Minneapolis.
Laila Harriet Hutchings, 92, of Park Rapids, died Friday, April 3, 2009 at St. Joseph's Area Health Services in Park Rapids. She was born on May 8, 1916 in Grant County to Harry and Lillie (Johnson) Stavos. She married Ray Hutchings on July 15, 1937 at Camp Nidos in Ottertail.
Rockwood "Rocky" E. Scott, 88, died March 28, 2009 in Washington. He was born March 27, 1921, in Park Rapids. He worked in the timber industry in Park Rapids until 1950, when he and his family moved to Kelso, Wash.
