The White Earth secretary-treasurer and tribal chairman have filed charges against each other, seeking to have each other censured and removed from office. White Earth Secretary-Treasurer Tara Mason has accused Tribal Chairman Terry Tibbetts of wrongfully obtaining more than $63,000 from the tribe's general fund when he and two other council members left office in 2014.
Wells Fargo Bank in Detroit Lakes was shut down for a brief time Tuesday afternoon after a protester locked herself to a table in the lobby. Disabled veteran Jessie Campbell left after about 20 minutes of negotiation with local law enforcement and bank officials. She was not arrested. She was one of a dozen or so protesters who picketed outside Wells Fargo after arriving from Camp Turtle Island - Water Protector Sanctuary, located at the intersection of County Road 4 and Highway 113 in the center of the White Earth Reservation.
DETROIT LAKES, Minn. - One man died in a fire at Edgewater Condominiums near the Detroit Lakes City Park on Saturday afternoon, Nov. 25. The victim was identified as William McGrath, 72, of Detroit Lakes, Minn. The fire was located in a living room on the third floor of the Edgewater Condominiums on the northeast side of the building. The incident was reported at 2:30 p.m. Saturday as a fire with heavy smoke showing.
