Representative Steve Green has urged Governor Dayton to tell the Public Utilities Commission to hurry up and approve the construction of Enbridge's new Line 3 Pipeline, citing jobs and increased tax revenue for counties. He continues to tout its benefits even though the Department of Commerce has concluded there is no need for this new pipeline and that it would be best the old, leaky Line 3 pipeline be shut down.
While many proponents of Enbridge's new Line 3 Pipeline praise the temporary jobs and tax revenue its construction and operation would provide, these supposed benefits come at a staggering cost to society.
Finally, opening day of fishing! I love to fish and I am not alone. According to the DNR, there are 1.4 million licensed anglers in Minnesota, and many will be out today on one of our 5,400 fishable lakes or 18,000 miles of fishable streams. After moving from the Twin Cities to the Park Rapids area several years ago, I have come to treasure our beautiful, clean lakes. However, aquatic invasive species (AIS) is threatening our lakes, too. We fishermen and boaters need to follow the fairly simple, but critical steps to keep our lakes fishable, swimmable and enjoyable.
